Benefits of Joining the Massachusetts Forest Landowners Association
-
Members receive MFLA’s magazine, The Woodland
Steward, free. Each issue of The Woodland
Steward is full of information about
Massachusetts forests and ways that landowners
can manage their woodlands to achieve their
goals in an environmentally sustainable manner.
-
Members are kept informed on issues that
affect woodlands and woodland owners in
Massachusetts. MFLA regularly updates its
members on proposed new laws or regulations that
may affect their land, and advocates on their
behalf to have their interests taken into
account by policy makers. As a member you can
sign up for MFLA’s free monthly email
newsletter, The Massachusetts Forest Update.

-
Members can purchase forestry publications at
a sizable discount through MFLA. Each year,
MFLA adds one or two new publications that we
think would be interesting for landowners.
-
Through MFLA’s affiliation with the National
Woodlands Association, MFLA members get NWOA’s
quarterly magazine, National Woodlands, for
free.
-
Members are kept informed of upcoming programs,
workshops, and Woods Walks that MFLA sponsors
each year around Massachusetts. Attending a
workshop is a way to get more information about
topics that can help you manage your woodland.
Each of MFLA’s Woods Walks or Tree Farm Tours
provides the opportunity to see how other
landowners are caring for their land and pick up
ideas that may be useful in managing your own
land.
-
Members can get help with questions or
problems they have in caring for their land.
MFLA provides its members with help concerning
property taxes on their land, how to find and
choose a forester, steps to take when you have a
timber harvest, and ways to protect your land
for the future. Each year, MFLA finds answers
for members on dozens of topics, ranging from
tree identification to coping with wildlife
problems to finding help with a tree health
problem.
