Coming Forestry Events

There are a lot of forestry events scheduled this summer and fall. We thought you might be interested in these events.


September 8th

Massachusetts Tree Farm Field Day, Moynaugh Family

Tree Farm – Sturbridge, 9 am – 3:30 pm.  Cost $15. Includes tours of 2007 Massachusetts Tree Farm of the Year, equipment demonstrations, chainsaw maintenance workshop, and picnic lunch.

This year’s Field Day will also include a display of antique chainsaws that forester Scott Gerrish has collected.  If you have an old saw you’d be willing to display, bring it with you.

Directions:

> Take the Mass Pike to Exit 9 (Sturbridge)
> Take Route 20 East about a mile uphill past the Walmart
> Turn left onto Route 49 and cross over the Mass Pike.
> Turn left onto Podunk Road, then head north about a mile.
> Field Day will be at 181 Podunk Road on the right.

September 25th

Sustainable Woodland Management for Farmers Workshop

New England Small Farms Institute – Belchertown, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Directions:

> Turn west onto Jackson Street opposite the common across from the new fire station in Belchertown Center.  

> Go down Jackson Street, over the railroad crossing and NESFI is in the first set of buildings on the left.

October 20th

Tree Farm Tour, Bacon Tree Farm – Williamsburg,  9 a.m.. 

See the results of a recent harvest at this former Tree Farm of the Year that is now celebrating its 50th year as a Tree Farm.

Directions:      

> Take Route 9 to Williamsburg Center.

> Turn onto South Street by the Dunphy School.

> Follow South Street 2 miles to the Bacon Tree Farm
